The Benefits of Portland's Custom Bedding, Pillows & Cushions
Custom-made decorative Pillows
Custom-made decorative pillows in just the right color and design add finishing touches to a room, like a fine piece of jewelry. They welcome guests into a room and draw them to your chairs for a visit.
Pillows can be seasonal! Since our pillow covers come with zippers, changing them out is easy - one set for the Fall and Winter and one for Spring and Summer. When you remove the inserts, the covers store away in a tiny space.
Custom Bedding
The "Bed in the Bag" found in big box stores is a great choice when starting out in life. Now is the time when you can have the beautiful custom bedding you have always dreamed about. No more sloppy, puckered seams and bed skirts that are too short or too long and don't stay in place.
Our access to unique couture fabrics allows us to design and make one-of-a-kind pillows or cushions which reflect your taste and personality, and you will be proud of them for a long time.
You spend a large part of your life in your bedroom. So why shouldn't it be your sanctuary away from the outside world, a place that feeds your soul and lets you get a good night's sleep to rejuvenate your body so you will be ready to embrace the world the next day?
Custom Upholstery
Many clients have a bench at the end of their bed or a special chair they love, but the fabric is worn or out of style. Often, it's a family heirloom or a treasured antique. Sometimes, it's that piece you searched far and wide for that fits perfectly in your space.
We can help you determine if that piece is worth recovering. Marlys, our fabric specialist, worked at a custom upholstery shop, cutting, sewing, and reassembling furniture pieces at the start of her career. As a result, she has a wealth of knowledge, and choosing a suitable fabric requires experience.
We have access to fabric lines from around the world, and we work with deeply experienced local artisans to recover your treasured pieces.
Other furniture pieces we recover are banquettes, settees, benches, cushions, loveseats, and dining chairs. Upholstered headboards are another popular item we can recover or custom-build for you.
Custom Cushions & Pillows for Outdoor Furniture
The world of outdoor living has grown to include outdoor rooms that families can enjoy all year round in most parts of the country.
As a result, many sofas, loveseats, and chairs are now almost indistinguishable from indoor pieces, with cushions sporting fabrics with fun, lively contemporary patterns in everything from bold colors to classic damasks.
When choosing "performance textiles" for outdoor projects, the most sought-after are fade-resistant and bleach-cleanable. Acrylic is a good contender because, by nature, it is mold, mildew, and water-repellent.
We use patio- and marine foam for outdoor cushions. Made from a mold- and mildew-resistant material, it allows water to pass through.

A bedspread is a lightweight, quilted cover used as a decorative element on your bed. It usually covers everything, including pillows, and has side drops to the floor.
A coverlet is similar to a bedspread in that it is typically quilted. However, rather than falling all the way to the floor, they fall midway. In addition, they usually don't have the length for a pillow tuck as you would see with a bedspread.
A comforter is a pre-filled blanket. It's thicker than expected and can often feel like a duvet without the versatility of a duvet. Comforters are warm but don't have a removable cover, so they must be washable or dry-cleanable. A comforter covers the top of your mattress without a pillow tuck, is shorter on the side, and does not touch the floor.
A duvet cover is a light, pillow-like bag filled with down, feathers, or synthetic filling and meant to be used with an easily washable cover fabric. It is similar in size to a coverlet. However, the duvet cover is more likely reversible, with a decorative fabric on the top and a complimentary lining fabric on the back. The duvet cover will have a button or zipper closure for easy access.
And here is a priceless tip from my European mother-in-law: "Do not sit or lay on top of your feather and down duvet." You will break/crush the down and feathers, and the duvet will lose its loft.
Bedskirts are excellent at hiding the unsightly framework of a bed frame. They are designed to cover the top and sides of a box spring with sides that drop to the floor.
Pillows and Pillow Shams come in Standard and Euro styles and custom sizes. Generally, Euro pillows are 26" square and placed in front of a headboard. Standard pillows are often selected because they are lower in height and will only cover up so much of the headboard.
Accent Pillows can be square, round, bolsters, or any shape you can think of. They are generally the most petite pillows on a bed.
Custom Table Linens include placemats, tablecloths, and napkins made in the fabrics of your choice. They add your personality to a table setting, and you could bring out a different set with each holiday. How fun! -
Bedspreads and coverlets usually weigh between 4 and 12 ounces per square yard. Understanding what your new bedding will feel like is very important. At Adrette, we want only good surprises when we place your new bedding on your bed. For example, you might choose a lighter-weight face fabric. A heavy velvet fabric, in contrast, can be so heavy it's cumbersome to take off the bed at night and make it in the morning. You should weigh your aesthetic priorities with the functionality of your design, and weight is a surprisingly vital element to consider.

The difference between cushions and pillows starts with cushions generally having a firmer insert or fill, often a foam or a foam core wrapped with a polyester batting, or a custom envelope filled with a down and feather blend. Cushions can be seat cushions or back cushions. Either will have a boxing that keeps the cushion square. (Sometimes, instead of the boxing, a rounded, bullnose front will be chosen for a less structured look.)
Pillows are often placed on a chair, sofa, or bed, and their purpose is to be leaned against for support, or they are used to "be pretty."
Pillows can also come with boxing; a welt cord applied around the perimeter or no welt cord for an even more simplistic look. The sky is the limit for trims that can be added for that touch of individuality and eye candy. Most popular inserts are down/feather blends allowing for a softer sink-into feel but still offering support. Down alternative fill is another excellent option for those with allergen sensitivities.
Pillows are also great for using an expensive couture fabric or trim you have fallen in love with, and it is just too costly to have a bedspread or curtains made from it.
